A look back at 2013 from Janice Hunt, Architect at GMT Home Designs

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France.

I have now been at GMT Home Designs for 3 years. In that time I have become proficient in Chief Architect software which is a powerful and valuable tool for our clients. The ability to render lifelike design for homeowners, allowing them to visualize a completed project is truly powerful.  At GMT this last year I was able to sink my teeth into “new” home construction projects and larger whole house remodel/addition projects.  This has been so satisfying, as I enjoy the challenges that this scale brings.  That said each project brings its challenges to be solved and the simple bath and kitchen remodel are just as rewarding because of the happiness they bring and problems they solve for our clients.

Centre Georges Pompidou is a complex in the Beaubourg area of the 4th arrondissement of Paris, near Les Halles, rue Montorgueil and the Marais. It was designed in the style of high-tech architecture.

I have had opportunity to do some personal travel this year and wanted to share two of my trips with you. Over the summer my family traveled to Budapest, Hungary to celebrate the 20th anniversary of planting a church there (and meeting my husband Michael, we just celebrated 19 years of marriage) We spent time in Budapest, traveled through Austria, and revisited Paris Europe is rich with architectural achievements of the past and present.  Of special note was visiting the Chartres Cathedral in France at midnight for a nighttime illumination of the façade.

Chartres Cathedral, also known as Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Chartres, is a medieval Roman Rite Catholic cathedral located in Chartres, France, about 80 kilometres southwest of Paris.

Another trip took me to my architecture roots, the University of Cincinnati, where I celebrated my 30 year reunion. It was good to connect with classmates and remember the rigors of our apprenticeship and the fine education we received which prepared us for vibrant careers in architecture. We also enjoyed an architectural tour of the university campus, I highly recommend it as the new campus plan integrates buildings by noteworthy architects.

For 2014 I am looking forward to another robust year at GMT, designing and solving your home remodeling , addition and building projects.
