Imagine a symphony where each instrument is playing a different song. Even if the musicians are great individually, the music will sound like a mess.
A home remodeling or construction project is a little bit like a symphony. Everybody needs to be on the same page. When they are, communication is good, the project goes smoothly, and the finished product makes everyone proud—especially the homeowner.
GMT Home Designs is especially proud of how we work with our General Contractor partners. We have provided design/build architectural design services for contractors for more than a decade, and that experience has shown us how great partnerships pay off.

First, when the designer is a great listener, it makes the contractor’s job much easier. The designer needs to interact directly with the homeowner to accurately capture what they want and need. A polished and professional designer not only helps make the contractor look good, but also minimizes headaches and delays later in the project.
This is where 3D visualization software has made a huge difference in our industry. Customers can “see” their finished project before the first nail is hammered, and visualize different approaches and solutions to find the perfect fit. At GMT Home Design we get great results using Chief Architect for this purpose.
Second, owners still sometimes want to make modifications at the beginning of a project, or even mid-stream. It’s just the nature of home building and remodeling. When the designer and contractor are working together, proposed changes can be assessed easily and quickly incorporated into the plans.
And third, contractors need realistic building plans. Experienced contractors know that some design elements can be technically buildable but not practical, whether because of environmental factors, material availability, or something else. It’s important to contractors that the design partner doesn’t throw unrealistic designs over the wall and walk away, or (worst of all!) start finger-pointing at the contractor.
Because we have spent many years working closely with builders and staying involved through project completion, we understand how to create designs that work in New England’s real world. We also have carefully chosen our building partners to ensure that we share the same standards and values. Today our contractor partners are trusted collaborators whom we respect and enjoy working with.
Customers can tell whether their design/build team is working together. When they do, the customer is more relaxed and confident, making the project easier and ultimately more successful.
