Where to find home design inspiration and ideas

Every home construction project starts with the owners' needs and wants — more space, modern conveniences, more light, for example.

But the next thing every hopeful homeowner looks for is inspiration. Ideas about how to meet their home design needs in the most beautiful, efficient, personal way possible.

That's why our portfolio pages are among the most popular on our website — sortable by whatever type of project you're considering.

Likewise, there are so many other visual resources for home design and construction. As architects and designers, we are constantly searching for fresh ideas ourselves. Here are some places to look to inspire your own next project.

Houzz and Pinterest are probably the best-known and most frequently used:

  • Houzz - here's our GMT page, and there are so many others
  • Pinterest - our page is here; pick any home design or architecture topic, and it's somewhere on Pinterest, from the traditional to the … not–so-traditional
  • Instagram is becoming a richer source of ideas as well. Follow a variety of designers with different styles to keep the fresh ideas coming - start with GMT's Insta page, of course!

Here are some other sites we recommend:

  • RD Residential Design - we absolutely love this site and their newsletter
  • New England Home - for local flavor, from Cape Cod to the Green Mountains
  • Clever, from Architectural Digest, highlights home renovations
  • The Spruce - focused on interior design elements and rooms

And if you're looking to expand your sense of possibilities - or just have a little fun - here are some less-known places to look:

Happy brainstorming!
